Phil has walked this earth for seventy-six years, and what he's learned is that the shadow is just as important as the light. A foundational Black man who grew up drawing in the spaces the world tried to keep small, he's watched too many people hide their gifts because they didn't think they fit the gallery mold.

Since the 8th grade — from newspaper strips to superheroes — Phil has used art to set his soul free. No spotlight required. Just charcoal, sand, and the truth. He built sculptures in the outdoors, fight scenes on canvas, and originals nobody had seen before, because his generation knew how to make something out of nothing.

The world could overlook him, but it could never ignore the work of his hands.
